 AW23 INSPIRATION

THE BLACK WATCH COLLECTION

The Black Watch is an elite Scottish battalion of the British Army with a reputation for honour, bravery and dedication to their country.

The AW23 collection takes inspiration from their iconic uniforms and a personal family connection to Kestin. Formed in 1729, the Black Watch’s history stretches back from the Jacobite risings to the trenches of World War I. The sheer scope and scale of The Black Watch’s contribution is what has nurtured a deep pride in this great Regiment.

During the research of this collection, we discovered Kestin’s Great Grand Father Andrew Hare (on his father’s side) fought in the Black Watch Regiment. Andrew Hare served on the front line in Belgium during the First World War. He wore the traditional kilted uniform and reported that the wet trenches often froze their kilts which chapped their knees.

Kestin’s great grandfather is pictured here on the right in his Black Watch Uniform. Kestin’s childhood was spent wearing military clothing in his school CCF days. Then from his teens onwards he has collected Military clothing, building an extensive vintage archive. The versatility and durability of military clothing will always be relevant to our brand.

The AW23 colour palette is derived from the British Military Dress as well as referencing our home, Scotland. Medal yellow, burgundy, military green and British brown complement the natural colours of the Scottish landscapes. Key new styles include the Linton Down Vest, the Dreghorn Fleece, the Port Jacket . We have developed our own custom textured jacquard camos, and tonal camos. Black watch tartan has been used throughout the collection.
